Nonstop blooms
A new Cleome or spider flower
It's hard to decide whether I should tell you this a good old faithful flower or a hot, new introduction. Both are true. Cleome have been around for years. You might have seen it in your Grandmother's garden.
Called Cleome, or Spider Flower, the reason this variety has been around so long is that gardeners can count on it. It's drought tolerant and tends to be pest and disease resistant.
You will love the new Proven Winners variety, Señorita Blanca™ Cleome. I haven't always been a fan of white flowers in the garden. But, Señorita Blanca™ changed my mind about white flowers. Or, maybe it was the subtle blush of lavender that won my heart.
Señorita Blanca™ has great heat and humidity tolerance. It's nonstop flowering last all spring, summer, right up to the first frost. This improved variety doesn't have the awful fragrance and there are no seed pods.
This is a sterile variety, so you can't save seed. That means you plant it where you want it and it stays there. No more little self sown seedlings showing in the gardens and containers. Being a sterile variety, means no seed set and no cycling out of bloom. It means continuous blooming!
Great container choice
Blooms from spring to frost
Some of the things I like best about Proven Winners Señorita Blanca™ Cleome is that it provides container plantings with season-long height. Deadheading isn’t necessary. They are self cleaning, meaning no pruning or trimming spent flowers.
Go to the Proven Winners site and type in your zip code to find the nearest independent garden center that sells these plants. When you get there, you'll meet some of the most helpful and knowledgeable growers. The folks that work there know their stuff.
I grew the new Proven Winners Señorita Blanca™ Cleome. It is related to an earlier variety in lavender pink, Senorita Rosalita®. The plant was sent to me as a trial plant. I will look for this annual and grow it again. You will be able to buy it this spring 2013. Hummers loved this plant. Señorita Blanca™ is perfect for a cottage garden, cutting garden, or butterfly garden.
