Echinacea are a favorite flower. I love these perennials because they can take the heat and continue to put on a good show longer than most Asteraceae.
These light purple pink blooms survived our zone 6 record breaking heat wave. That's not surprising for echinacea. That the unusual pale pink quill flowers continue to bloom this late in the fall is the standout.
When echinacea have long since ceased to bloom, 'Quills and Thrills' is blooming and blooming. It's October, when pinks and pale purples are hard to find amid falls rich reds and golden tones.
'Quills and Thrills' is planted in a small container. I am building a new cutting garden. This long blooming echinacea will move to the full sun cutting gardens in the spring.
Terra Nova sent 'Quills and Thrills' as a trial plant. You can find a more scientific review online. I'm reporting how this novelty flower grows in my southeast Missouri garden.
The plant is about 18 inches tall, it will probably be bigger and produce larger flowers once it is transplanted into the garden. The producer says the blooms are 4”. That makes sense. It's a goal to which my little under achiever can aspire once it moves to terra firma.
The repeat blooms of long lasting quilled ray flowers get all the attention in any bouquet. 3 ½ inch flowers on sturdy stems are great as cut flowers. It always gets a second look in the garden or in a vase.

'Quills and Thrills' received regular water, little attention, occasional fertilizer, some deadheading. Just imagine how well it would do if someone gave it loving care.
I'll plant and recommend 'Quills and Thrills' echinacea because it is a season extending treasure.
